| othefisho's Full Review: Rio Sport S30S (64 MB) MP3 Player |
I got the RioSPORT S30S 64MB MP3 Player for Christmas of 2003, and I've been using it ever since. I am an active guy, I play volleyball, go to the gym, and do other outdoor activities, so I just couldn't use a CD Player for my tunes. With that said, the RioSPORT S30S has lived up to most of my expectations.
First, the positives. This is an extremely lightweight and compact player, great for all you who are athletes, or just love the outdoors. Even if you don't do much activity, this is a small player that won't hinder your daily work. It has an FM Tuner, which is more than I can say for most of the other MP3 Players I have seen. The reception is fairly good, slightly less than that of a normal radio. The sound quality of the normal mp3 songs is very great! It has a multitude of other features, such as the ability to have radio presets, it has a stopwatch, battery settings (rechargeable or regular, then adjusts usage accordingly). This MP3 player also came with an additional 32 mb MMC (MultiMediaCard) so you can store some extra tunes. I listen to classic rock, where the songs tend to be a little longer, and I can fit about 24 songs on average onto this player, with the mmc card in as well. Also, it comes with a set of earphones for you to use!
Now, the downsides. My main problem is not with the player itself, but with the software that comes with it. I found the program Rio uses to organize and transfer your music to be very unskillfully made. Its design is poor, and there is no easy way to change the artist, album, etc, of many songs at a time. The other program that came with it I found to be completely useless. Basically, it organizes your music, yet again. However, there are some alternative programs out there on the net, you just have to look for them. Also, the one AAA battery it uses doesn't provide too much battery life: about five hours, I found. A small setback, but a setback nonetheless
All in all, this is a solid player, with the features, playability, and size that you need to get your groove on, outside, inside, everywhere! Although the program it comes with is cumbersome, I'm willing to look over it to get this quality product.
