| veganweb's Full Review: Rio Sport S30S (64 MB) MP3 Player |
I made the HUGE mistake of purchasing one of these pieces of garbage on EBay. It was listed as factory remanufactured and came in a sealed box marked as such. I was very excited as MP3 players has previously been out of my price range. So when the box arrived I was very happy.
Then I opened the box. The player is small and rubberized which is exactly what I expected. I put a battery in it and listened to the radio for a few moments then shut it off to install the software of my computer...
It would be the first and last time my Rio ever produced music.
After getting the software and drivers installed I switched my Rio on. It said "UPGRADER"...curious. I tried to turn it off and it wouldn't turn off, all it did was put a Rio splash screen on the display. I went to Rio Audio and downloaded the updated firmware and with a few starts and stops I managed to get it installed.
Still it either said "UPGRADER" or Rio audio. It played no mp3s, it wouldn't connect to my computer even though my computer said it was there, it wouldn't even play the radio. So I called Rio's tech support and got hold of a very nice person who tried to be as helpful as he could. Only problem is that he had no idea what the problem was or how to fix it? I could tell that he was leafing through troubleshooting manuals and supposedly asking others for help. In the end I was placed on hold so long I had to hand up.
Emails to Rio were treated with about the same level of helpfulness. They talked, and pointed me to FAQs which did nothing to address my problem. I was told by the seller and by Rio that remanufactured items had a 30 day warranty. I was also told that Rio would send me an RMA for my unfunctional unit. As of this writing all communication with Rio Audio has stopped. My last emails have been ignored and it's now been 30 days and I don't expect to ever hear from Rio again.
So I have a $60 paperweight that's too light to hold papers and an MP3 player that doesn't play any music at all. I have a small, red $60 ad for Rio because all this unit does is display the Rio logo.
Never, ever even consider purchasing anything from Rio.
