| finsup's Full Review: Rio Sport S30S (64 MB) MP3 Player |
I was in the market for an MP3 player to take the gym and go running with. I was tired of my bulky CD player that skipped when I ran. I settled on the S30 because it had an FM tuner and it was gym ready.
I really wanted an FM tuner because my Gym has TV's in it that you can listen to the audio on an FM radio station. I was disappointed at first when I stepped out my front door and I couldn't get the rio to get even the most local stations. But, inside the gym it was better. There is still some static but for the most part it does what I wanted it to do.
The Head phones were the separate kind that attach to your ears independently....horrible and never stayed in place. I replaced them with an over the head kind from my old sony walk man.
The S30 is made of sturdy rubber which withstands being dropped and sweaty palms, and also has a clip that you can use to attach it to your clothing or the provided arm-band. The clips clamping strength isn't very strong and I haven't had any luck getting it to stay where I put it using this clip...I usually just put it in my pocket instead. Which brings me to a handy feature: the lock button feature. This will lock all the buttons on the player so you can put it in your pocket without worrying about mistakenly hitting the stop, pause, or advance buttons.
The software installed easily and I had not problems running it. It might be a bit confusing to the computer beginner and there are no real instructions on how to use it. It was mostly trial and error.
The memory is not an issue for me, but I realize it would be for some. I have about 13 songs on the players internal memory and it is full. You'll have to get external memory if you need more than that.
The player takes 1 aaa battery and lasted for about 15 hours. There is no place on the player for a spare battery, though there is a little battery icon on the players screen so you can bring a spare battery with you if it is getting low.
Overall, this is a great first player for me, is sturdy and gets the job done.
