Pros: Decent sound, pretty nice design, fair price, reception seems good, nice backlit LCD
Cons: Barely works with a Mac, virtually no support for Macs, manual is basic at best
The Bottom Line: If using a Mac, try something else. Not bad, but there are better.

| thattimguy7's Full Review: RCA Lyra RD1080 (128 MB) MP3 Player |
When I see big letters on the front of a box that say "PC/MAC Compatible" I assume that both systems will be equally well supported and will work virtually the same. I guess I'm just naive... The RCA Lyra RD 1080 seems like it will be a nice player... It includes an armband, digital tuner, expansion slot for memory, backlit LCD display - which does look nice - and a few other cool features. But the honest truth is, RCA really doesn't try to support the Mac platform. In fact everything you can download from their site (at least that I found) is a .exe file or some other PC only format file, and the disc included with the package is only PC.
When I hooked up the player to my computer, it showed up as an external hard drive. I opened it and found one included song and the firmware (all PC files by the way). It seemed simple enough.... it looked like a drag and drop type interface and it seemed simple. But apparently I'm doing something wrong because for everyone song I put on the player, it seems to think there are 2 files, and one of them is considered unsupported and the thing freezes up and, well, I haven't figured out how to get around this, so as of now the only thing that works is the radio, which does get good reception and sounds pretty good too. But I'm so annoyed by the RCA customer service and online support that I think I'm going to return the thing and try something else. I've heard the iRiver and Sonic Blue Rio are good so I'm giving them a shot. So bottom line if you just want to use the radio or if you have a PC, this could be good for you, but even so, I think there are better options.
