lreger's Full Review: RCA Lyra RD1080 (128 MB) MP3 Player
I received an RCA Lyra for Christmas this year. It was the perfect gift for the time. I was about to take a trip and I hate bringing along a CD player and cds. I hate it becuase of the bulk and the fact that when I walk my less then usable CD player always skips.
I easily installed the software and hooked the player through USB up to my computer. I found what songs I wanted to transfer, right clicked, and had them transfer to the player. At this point there were two things I was very disappointed with. First of all I could only fit 22 songs on the player at once. Also the transfer time was horrendous. I have DSL and I could have redownloaded all the songs in the same time it took me to transfer them to my computer. When I was done transferring them I went to close the USB cover and realized that it doesnt fit quite properly after the first time youve taken it off.
The next day on the trip though I was very pleased with it. It fit easily into my front pocket without any tough squeeze like my old CD player. The interface was pretty easy to use but very limited in features. The only actual feauture it was missing that I missed was the fact that it did not have a "hold" function which stops buttons from getting pressed when you are not holding the device.
The sound was decent. It had a few equalizer options depending on the type of music being heard. I personally prefer the "Rock" tones over any of the other options. It had enough power that I didnt ever feel the need to turn the volume up to the maximum.
Battery life so far I think has been superb. I have used it probably a total of 10 hours and have not seen the battery go down at all.
Overall its a great buy but is lacking some key things. It could deffinetly do well with a hold button, different mode of transfer, and some way to get slightly higher sound quality.
