| Weenisman's Full Review: Power Acoustik VU500-2X Car Amp |
The Power Acoustik VU500-2X is a good beginner's amp for decent sound quality and power to push some subs with. My first experience with Power Acoustik was a A2-200X 2 channel amp. I was very pleased with this amp, especially since it was my first one. I eventually expanded my components and needed a better amp for my Orion XTR DVC 10 inch subs. I picked up a VU500-2X for the job. At first I was pleased with the amp. Then I heard a MTX 2150X that was pushing my old Pioneer IMPP 10's. The MTX was a ton louder and cleaner than my PA and the MTX was in a sedan. I own a hatchback so my subs do sound loud but I was amazed at the difference. Granted, the MTX and PA are not really in the same cost bracket but I could see why people say "You get what you pay for." The PA has been a good amp but I will probably not go back to any Power Acoustik amps. I would recommend it to a beginner but that is about it.
PROS:Looks nice, Good protection system, variable Hi or Low pass crossovers.
CONS:Bass Boost sounds nasty, Signal to Noise Ratio could be better (95dB).
