| tsindc's Full Review: Compaq Presario 700US PC Notebook |
Our Compaq Presario 700US laptop seemed like a great bargain when we get it, but less than one year later it's falling apart. Mouse keys have stopped working, the battery won't hold a charge, and the PCMCIA card slot is broken. All this should be covered by the warranty, but Compaq seems to not honor them.
After we sent the computer in for repair, we were told that the card slot damage was not covered because of "customer abuse." The "abuse" was not defined, but one hapless tech support person told us that it probably was because we "improperly" used a card. As you know, there's little to a card slot - you push the card in, you pull it out. I wouldn't even now how to abuse one if I wanted.
Now apart from this assertion that our card slot damage was our fault, they demanded that we give them $650 to get it fixed before they would do any of the repair work - even on items that they agreed were covered by the warranty. Asked how we could appeal this determination, they told us there was no appeal. We've been trying now for weeks to get this resolved and have been stonewalled at every turn.
So I'd recommend that you consider another company than HP/Compaq. At the least, I'd suggest avoiding the 700US.
