dren710's Full Review: Prince of Persia: Sands of Time for PlayStation 2
Prince of Persia is another game I rushed out to the store to pick up because of reviews I read about it. This game didnt disappoint me at all.
Graphically it has to be the best looking game on the Game Cube. Its the same game on all systems, and from reviews on IGN I hear it looks the best on the Cube. The levels are very detailed, and the design is top notch. I took lots of time when outside the castles to look around at everything. The architecture is breathtaking. The only other title on any console that rivals it in terms of level design and beauty is Metroid Prime. The main character is animated really well. Its fun to watch him run around. The girl is annoying, I wish you could kill her without worrying about ending the game.
The controls are very good. They have to be some of the best I have used, very intuitive. It makes swinging from poles and jumping from wall to wall very easy, almost too easy.
The games length is short, roughly about 10 hours, but anything longer would make the game too boring. The game play is heavily repetitive: enter room, climb to top of room, push a button or two along the way, enter new room, kill enemies, repeat. The enemy fights get tiresome after the first few. It is just random hacking and slashing even though there is some depth in the combat system. I just point the controller in the right direction and press buttons. This seems to work better than if you really try to outsmart your enemies. At times the fights get frustrating when there are too many of the guys on the screen. They wont let you get up if knocked down. The last boss was entirely too easy to defeat after the so many hours played through the game. I was disappointed in that.
Overall this is a fun game that starts to become repetitive towards the end. New moves along the way keep it slightly fresh, but not fresh enough. This is a game you definitely want to rent and not buy. You can beat this in a few dedicated gaming nights easily.
