| st_hannes's Full Review: Canon i 320 InkJet Printer |
People talk about cars having characters of their own.. But I'll tell you that this piece of plastic (and a bit of metal) would nag and grunt at you about how tough dishing out laser-like B&W printing for you day in and day out..
Back to basics..
The installation procedure was simple, just pop in the driver CD and off you go. But don't forget to 'on' it first and have the USB cable well connected. Have to tell you, I didn't get it right the first time, as I left the cover open after inserting the ink cartridges. You HAVE TO CLOSE the cover, otherwise it gives you a ego-crushing error message!
After running the diagnostics (test page, head alignment - all via software), only I noticed that this thing looks good!
The curves are nice on this particular printer, but it is not that small, given the "in" and "out" paper trays requires a bit of room to be stretched out comfortably. The "in" tray actually folds open, telling you that the designers at Canon are getting things right.
Nice..
That was until I heard this thing print.. As I have reserved the top part of my 5'5" fibre-board PC table for the i320, I and my mom were in laughter seeing this contraption forcing my table to bob from left to right continuously until it finished printing my two page sales quotation. Oh..
Loud and..
Clear! That was the nature of my smile and also the printout from this nagging slave. The print was the sharpest I have ever seen from an inkjet. By the way, I found out that the software provides you with "silent mode" in case you would want to burn your midnight oil printing Britney's boobs..
Which was not so bad, as I tried printing photos on 4" x 6" glossy media. (Of course it wasn't Britney's boobs - the photo paper costs good money, man!) Canon scored again by giving you a software called "Easy-Photo Print" which lets you print high res photos easily. Outputs are fast and colors came out looking vibrant even though it does not use any special photo ink cartridges.
Speaking of which, the ink tanks costs a meagre USD5.25 while the BCI-24 color cartridges are available from USD9.
Fast, cheap ink.. Any faults you may ask? I do think that the i320 hogs on the ink part a bit.. Or maybe because the ink tanks are a wee bit on the small side, I feel that it runs out as fast as it prints. Note, NOT as MUCH as it prints. For that reason, you'd be annoyed when you have your favourite Britney print come out in all magenta or cyan as the all-in-one ink tank won't tell you which colour would be running out..
All things said, I honestly feel that Canon has a winner here. For the home office user, this curvaceous baby/nagging maid (delete where applicable) comes highly, highly recommended.
