| Bouv's Full Review: Epson Stylus® C62 InkJet Printer |
For my job, the printer that came with the computer I use is the Epson Stylus C62. My parents, when they first bought their computer, got a Epson printer with it (can't remember the model number). I remember it did what it was suppose to do but it eventually broke down and they had to get a Hewitt-Packard.
The C62 is a color printer with just the basic features. For my job, that's all I need. I don't need to be able to print photo-quality images or have fancy reports due to anyone. I need to be able to print out some documents, the odd thing here and there in color and my daily attendence sheets. The Stylus C62 does that. Mostly.
On of the biggest things I've come across with this is that it does seem to need its heads cleaned quite often. Not only do the heads need cleaning, but every couple months I need to wipe down the insides due to exessive ink build-up. Again, not a huge crisis if my jobs don't look just perfect or have a little extra ink on them, they are mainly for my use and then get recycled. However, for people looking for top quality print jobs, they might want to be wary of it. I also noticed that when I didn't use an Epson-brand ink cartridge, it leaked even more ink (I don't know if this was because of the printer not liking it or the cartiridge being sub-par).
Also, with the software that my job uses, it the C62 doesn't always like to print it. My attendence, on a daily basis, has the very left-hand side cut off (the last part to come out of the printer). I've printed, through other people or at home, these same attendance sheets on different printers and they did not cut off the side. While not a huge deal, it does get annoying, because it is the names of the students that get cut off. Also, with our software, some print jobs do get messed up pretty bad (I've gone to just printing my attendance off of our software with the C62).
In terms of printing speed, I think the C62 does a fair job, even with color. I don't print huge jobs so most of mine take under 2-3 minutes to do, depending on the number of pages I'm printing.
The quality of the print jobs does vary, depending on when the last time I cleaned the heads and the inside out. If the heads and inside are clean, the print jobs are pretty average. I can, through the printer control opitions, up the quality to what they would consider a "best photo" quality. I normally leave mine on "text". You can also choose advanced settings, where you can even adjust the amount of ink each color adds.
While printing, you do get a read-out of how much color and black ink you have remaining and, if you are getting low, it will pop up a reminder of such. The reminder will even offer to let you buy ink right online to save time.
I also find that sometimes, paper does get jammed in it (which I think is wierd as it is a top-paper loading machine). But, the ease to unjam paper is quick. You, most times, just need to pull it right back out. I do notice that if you overload the paper tray, it will grab more than one piece at a time and get jammed. A good amount of paper to keep in it is between 50-100 pieces of standard copy or print paper.
Overall, for the price one probably pays for this printer, it is decent. For those looking for high quality jobs or even photo-printing, I would not recommend this printer. For those looking for a printer just to print off text documents that probably aren't super-important with the occisional color print job, this is a printer you might be able to use.
