| safetymom's Full Review: Epson Stylus Photo® 925 InkJet Printer |
When I decided to buy a photo printer, I spent hours online researching. I had narrowed the field when the professional photographer that I frequent advised me that all of the 'pros' use Epson printers, that they are considered the best producer of quality photo printers. That helped make my decision. I purchased the Epson 925. Boy was I sorry.
On the plus side, the printer was not too expensive. It had a lot of very nice features. I liked that fact that you could print directly off of compact flash, smart media, or memory stick...no computer needed. You could choose the photos you would like to print, size, format and even crop directly from the control panel (a little tricky at first, but not bad after you get used to it). I would suggest buying the optional view finder. My image number, and that the printer read were often different. The prints that came out were very nice. Truly comparable to a photo lab. The photo paper roll is a great feature. The printer prints and cuts 4X6 photos from a roll of photo paper.
On the negative side, I could never get the darn thing to work properly, even after months of trying and calls to Epson for help. The paper would often jam and you would have to make multiple attempts to finally get the print you wanted (this can get expensive!) My prints were off center, my borderless prints always had a strip of white on one side, and cut off photo on the other. Finally, I was never able to get the photo paper roll feature working properly. I will add that the text print quality was not great, but I knew this going into the purchase. I was buying this printer purely for photo production, if you are not, be warned.
I originally thought that maybe I just had a lemon and was going to exchange the printer. However, after doing some more online research, I found quite a few people with similar complaints which lead me to believe that I had made the wrong decision in choosing this printer. Thank goodness for Costco and their wonderful return policy ( I highly recommend them for electronics purchases). I did return this printer and I am now awaiting delivery on the new Canon 960I-I will let you know how it goes!
