| danburkejr's Full Review: Epson Stylus Photo® 925 InkJet Printer |
Couple years ago I bought my first digital camera, 5MP Sony DSC-F717. I quickly realized the cheesy Cannon printer I had could not handle the challenge. I went to the Sony sight and they suggested Epson printers, such as the 925. I purchased one. Easy setup, and I was printing great photos! after a month, the printed photos SUCKED. I spent two hours with Tech support cleaning the heads, replacing the $35 color print cartridge etc, nothing worked. It had to be replaced under warranty.
The tech asked me if I left my printer on all the time, my answer was yes. I have never shut down my printers (over the last 15 or 20 years. He told me that I had destroyed the print heads because I leave it on. I jumped back and told him that; 1) I have always had HP printers, left them on without problem (HP parks/seals the heads when not printing); 2) the Epson manual in no way indicated that this could be a problem!
They sent me a new printer and the fold-up paper exit tray would not stay folded up! FORGET IT! I'll live with it. Although I am afraid to leave it ON for more than a few minutes, I proceeded.
This thing sucks ink and must have the print heads cleaned frequently, which sucks even more ink. The other big problem is that when it pulls in a new piece of paper it is a crap-shoot. It pulls anywhere from one sheet to all the sheets available. Sometimes the photos are beautiful, other times they suck. When it is good, it's great, when it's bad it's really bad!
All in all, I paid for wondering away from HP. A mistake that I will never make again. I do know that I will never purchase another Epson.
