Pros: Print quality is good.
Cons: A little slow. CD Printing has REAL Problems
The Bottom Line: Direct CD printing has REAL problems. Save your money and buy a good Canon with larger borderless printing capabilities.

| mfarris2's Full Review: Epson Stylus Photo 960 InkJet Printer |
I purchased this printer a few weeks ago. I am pleased with the printer. But it can still use a few refinements to make it the perfect printer.
I also own an HP top of the line printer and a Cannon photo printer as well. Hp used to be the only printer product I would own. But they fell behind. I love Canons drivers for speed. And the quality is outstanding with their six color printers as well. But I do believe that the Epson Stylus Photo 960 does print a slightly better image. It does print a borderless image on a couple smaller size prints. (IE 4" X 6") But it would have been nice if they could have made it print borderless on full size sheets of photo paper.
It is also considerably slower that the Canon. (Epson rep asked me what I wanted,....speed or quality?) I do not think the quality improvement justifies the much slower speed. Although this Epson printer is much faster than their printers of the past.
Now the one feature that really made me shell out more than $300.00 for this printer is that it prints directly to a inkjet printable CD or DVD. (No more labels)
This works fine if you use ONLY the graphics provided with the Epson Print CD software. (Only about a dozen low quality graphics.) But if you import your own graphics,...you have a devil of a time trying to get the graphics centered onto the CD. When you finally get the graphic centered,..(after wasting several CD's) It does do a decent job of printing it onto the CD. But the next time you import a different graphic,....you are back to wasting several more CD's trying to get it centered onto your CD again. (The print layout settings are never the same.)
I spoke with Epsons technical support (Long distance telephone calls) on several occasions, for extended periods of time, trying to resolve this problem. I made sure the graphics I was importing were the same size as the graphics supplied in Epsons software. NOTHING HELPED! I also spoke with a couple of Epsons customer service representatives. One named Beverly Bolten. This representative has to be one of the most rude people I have ever spoken with. She felt that talking over me and not listening to my problem would fix everything. She tried to tell me that the company had nothing to do with the software that printed to CD's,...although it had Epsons (and no one elses) name on the software. All the directions for the software are in the printers owners manual. I asked to talk to her supervisor, she told me none were available. But would have one call me back. I NEVER received that call.
I have resigned myself that if I want to print to a CD using my graphics,....I must waste several CD's to get whatever graphic I want to use centered. (This is costly considering the price of inkjet printable CD's at this time.)
The quality of the printing is still very good. But I cannot justify the price of this printer, just for very good picture printing. Their are a good many printers that do just as good a job,...for a lot less money.
If I had it over to do again,.....I would buy another Canon printer that prints large borderless pictures. And I would continue to use my Neato MedeaFace 4.0 to print to CD Labels. And I would probably have about $75.00 dollars extra in my pocket to boot.
