Pros:Good quality, durable, high-quality prints.
Cons:Not perfectly compatible with my computer set-up.
The Bottom Line: For a good quality, inexpensive printer, the HP Deskjet 6122 is a great buy!
I bought this printer because my husband has one at work and they love it. I got it at a discount price from some whacko on ebay, but I loved it the minute I got it-with one exception. For whatever reason, it will not print photos, clipart, or other art (including boxes and autoshapes in MS Word) unless those things are saved specifically on my hard drive. Clipart in Word, Excell, Powerpoint won't print unless I open the image in Paint, save it, then insert it into a document from there. Not sure if it is a compatibility issue with Office 2007, with the printer driver, or with Windows Vista, but whatever the cause, there is a long process to printing out images in documents from Office 2007.
Well, the printer prints well. It features 4800 dpi in color and 2400 by 2400 in B&W, so it is a HUGE step up from my old HP laserjet 4L. I'm a loyal HP printer girl, can you tell? I've been able to find ink cartidges for relatively low prices on ebay, so I've probably only spent $100 in ink since I got the printer 2 years ago.
This machine does have a duplex tray, which makes duplexed prints very easy. It's only 14" by 8" so the footprint is half what my 4L is, too. It is not the fastest printer ever, but it will spool 8-10 pages per minute, even digital scrapbook images, and the resolution is usually very good and color very bright. It didn't come with any cables, which I guess is pretty standard nowadays, but you can use a standard printer cable or a USB, so it is easy to hook up to just about any computer.
The paper tray only holds about 40 pieces of paper, which might be annoying to some people, but is fine for me. The paper tray is out front, so unless it is hanging off your desk like mine is, you also have to take that into account when calculating how much space it will take up.
All in all, I've really liked this printer. The price was right, and ink is easy to find and not outrageously expensive, so I think it works well for me and mine.
