chinafrog's Full Review: Hewlett Packard DeskJet 845c InkJet Printer
When I recently purchased my new computer system from Best Buy, I was only looking for a better tower. However, electronics and computers stores love to bundle packages. So, unless I wanted to lose money, I was going to end up buying a printer and a monitor. In the end, I am very satisfied with the entire system. Here, I will discuss the printer, again I have no complaints.
Installation:
I think hardware is becoming even easier to install as time progresses. For my old printer, I remember having to buy and screw on a huge, clumsy IEEE cable. Not the case with the 845c. It has a USB cable slot, which is much simpler. You simply insert the cable into the printer and the other end into a USB slot in your computer tower. The printer came with an installation cd, as well as installation instructions. These were so basic that I honestly believe a 2 year old could perform this task(if it could read, of course). Anyway, I popped in the cd, kept hitting enter to any questions I was asked, and 7 minutes later...tada! My printer was installed.
Paper Loading:
This printer is very easy to load. I simply take a 23-30 page stack of letter size paper(8.5 X 11 inches)and placed it in the tray, and that's all there is too it. No adjustments or setting changes of any kind are required for this. So far I have never had a paper jam.
Quality & Speed:
My old printer was the HP 670C and it can't even compete with this printer in terms of speed. The 845c is pretty fast for an inkjet printer. It can supposedly handle up 9 pages per minute, but I have never actually timed it. In any case, I don't really concern myself with speed when it comes to inkjets. I like to use my inkjet to print out color documents, such as cards or posters. One of my software programs is the HP Printing Kit's Mindscape. Mindscape allows me to make greeting cards and other color documents which I use the printer for. So, to restate my experience, the printer quality is very good.
I have not attempted to network this printer to my old computer, which I still use from time to time. I will post any experiences I have with networking the printer, if I do attempt to do this. I use this printer for home purposes: printing out papers, emails and greeting cards.
So to summarize, I didn't really want this printer but I am pretty glad that I have it now. This printer requires HP 45 black cartridge and #17 color cartridge, both of which are $30-40 at any office supply/electronic store.
