I purchased the HP 960c in in tandem with a HP Pavilion ze5170 laptop. I have always used Canon printers in the past but I decided to get a "matching set" this time. I purchased both of the pieces from www.TigerDirect.com at a great price. The printer was $149.99 and has been worth every penny. In the past, printers I have owned in the price range of $150.00-$250.00 have been good at best. The performance of this printer has been surprisingly good. The only problem has been an occasional paper jam. The good news is that it jams less frequently than the other style printers I have used. I think part of the reason that it jams less than others I have used is that the paper feeds from the bottom and lays flat in a tray. The other printers I used had top load paper systems. The paper in these seemed to develop a "curl" if they were left in for a time.
The dimensions of this printer are 7 3/4" tall x 15" deep x 17 1/4" wide. It is not the smallest desktop printer but it is not intrusive in size. I really like the fact that I can load up to 150 pages in the paper tray at one time...less trips to the stock room.
As for printing, the HP 960c puts out an advertised 15ppm in black and 12ppm in color. I think that is an average because it seems to print a little slower in my case. It could depend on the application or detail. I did get an InkSaver program that allows you to reduce the amount of ink used when printing. It allows you to set values by percentage on the amount of ink that will be used to print a project. It really seems to "stretch out" the life of the ink cartridges in my case. Also, the printer will print on many different types and sizes of media. It can use plain paper, glossy (for great pictures), transparencies, envelopes and others.
The printer came with a CD and a poster size instruction form to help with the installation process. It was very simple to get up and running with these instructions. The printer is Mac OS and Windows OS compatible (95/98, Millennium, XP).
Overall, this has been the best printer I have used in this price range. I would definitely purchase more HP products based on the performance of my HP laptop and printer. It does come with a 1 year Manufacturers Warranty and most places offer an extended warranty.
