Pros: Small, quiet - very portable. HP quality is apparent in the well made internal mechanisms.
Cons: Slow print speed (2 minutes 4x6), expensive print cartridges, LACK OF PREVIEW DISPLAY color screen
The Bottom Line: Acceptable printer for a low budget OR if you want a small, portable printer. This would be great for someone on the road - perhaps a realtor?
excise's Full Review: Hewlett Packard PhotoSmart 130 InkJet Printer
I have owned my HP Photosmart 130 printer for about 8 months now. It has allowed me to print decent quality photos from media cards I pull from my two digital cameras. Overall, it is a good printer - however, had I to purchase a replacement photo printer I would definitely NOT but this printer again.
The print quality is good. Using more expensive photopaper yeilds better results, of course. Also, if you want to print photos for mailing out to friends, family etc I found that 4x6 inch card stock allows respectable results. Call me impatient, but I don't like waiting two minutes for a 4x6 print to emerge from this cute yet diminutive machine. Additionally, it is a mild pain to trim 1/2 an inch off each photo print. This is necessary because the machine does not print on this last portion so that the machine can keep a grip on the card without smearing any newly printed photo area. Of course, this only occurs when you have the printer print its largest 4x6 size.
I do like the versatility of the printer's acceptance of various types of media memory cards - Secure Data, MMC, Smart Media, etc.
My biggest gripe is the LACK OF A PREVIEW SCREEN. The newer (and slightly more expensive) machines have preview screens whereby you can see what you might print in vivid color. Instead, I must page through those photos I want using my digital camera's display window (while running down the camera battery), record the photo numbers and then put my memory card into the printer thereafter scrolling through the photo numbers on the very small LCD window. Using a USB cable may reduce this step to just scrolling through photos on the camera and then printing them while your camera runs out of juice.
Bottom line - you get what you pay for. Decent price for a decent photo printer. This Photosmart 130 IS a well made printer for what it does. However, More bucks, better printer.
