| milehigh's Full Review: Lexmark Jet Z22 InkJet Printer |
I was in the printer market after my color printer cartridge ran dry in my old Cannon printer. The color resolution in the cannon was pathetic compared to today’s standards and after pricing a new cartridge, I came to the conclusion that I could almost buy a new printer for a few more dollars.
I looked around the web for reviews and heard good things about the Lexmark Z22 Bubblejet printer. Reviews touted great price and good print quality, which sounded good to me.
I ran out to Best Buy and bought one for $79.99 with a $30.00 rebate that arrived in my mailbox within 2 weeks after I mailed it.
*Setting the printer up is a snap. Just hook it to your parallel port, plug it in, pop in the cartridge and load the driver software and your ready to go. The print manager window for this printer is pretty nifty; it shows you the ink levels in each cartridge.
*Resolutions are 1200 x 1200 dpi for both black and color printing. I printed some color photos on both glossy and plain paper and was impressed by the results. Colors were vibrant and images were sharp.
Black and white printing is great at 1200x1200 and good at 600x600. The printer comes with a color cartridge (which does not print as well in B&W). You can buy an additional black cartridge, which fits along side the color cartridge and provides crisper print for text documents. Overall the print quality was leaps and bounds better than my old printer which tended to put lines through pictures and text.
*The specs from Lexmark state that it prints “6.5 pages per minute black and up to 3.5 pages per minute for color.” I’m not sure how they measured these results but the printing I have done to date for both black and white and color seems a bit slower. The printer is also louder than some other Jets that I’m familiar with.
*Some have complained about printer jams, I have not had this problem in over a month of moderate to heavy use. The print cartridges are about the same price as my old printer and last about as long.
This printer has definitely given me an upgrade when it comes to printing. The price is a steal and the print quality is good.
