User Rating: Excellent
Ease of Use:
Pros:Inexpensive alternative for the home office in both price as well as toner.
Cons:Printing envelopes is a bit tricky and no double-sided printing feature.
The Bottom Line: If the ML1430 is for you really depends on your needs. It offers a better quality print and cheap overall alternative to that of Ink Jet Printers.
The Samsung ML 1430 is an excellent value compared to the alternatives.
Size & Price
Considering that today's black ink laser printers run in the mid $200s and are quite bulky, the Samsung ML 1430 fares well. Its lightweight and small enough to fit on a small workstation and priced in around $150. It's great for the home office and/or family that is tired of over paying for ink jet cartridges and wants a quality print for a change without spending $399 on an HP.
A full toner cartridge is included with the printer. However, it does not come with a hard copy manual (only a pdf file on the CD) nor a printer cable (but most don't).
The ML 1430 does have a built-in toner save feature, for which I can attest does extend the life of the toner cartridge. Without having selected the toner save feature, you get about 1000 pages per cartridge. I'm already on 1423 and its still printing relatively dark.
1. Printing envelopes can be a bit tricky. There is specific envelope input tray separate from automatic input tray which can be sensitive. Some times the ML 1430 doesn't recognize an envelope is loaded. In addition, to print the envelope, you first have to push an output lever down located in the bottom front of the printer which I don't always remember to do. Thus, I print what should be an envelope on a piece of paper.
2. There is no double-sided printing feature. If you want to print double-sided, you'll have to figure it out manually (I typically gravitate toward printers with this feature).
3. Graphics come out OK. Poor detail, so if you're not worried about the graphics, then its not a problem.

Hands down, great value! Ultimately, it compensates for what it lacks in features by its overall affordability.
