The Bottom Line: Best photo printer on the market for the money. Don't be fooled by the resolution at 403x403.

I went to Circuit city looking for a photo printer. I looked at the HP 100 because my brother uses it for his photo's. That has a 2600x1200 dpi. This is the most confusing aspect about printers. You can't measure the quality of prints by that number. The HP does produce very nice prints, but nothing like the Sony sv55. The Sony specifications has it listed at 403(h)x 403(v)resolution. If you are looking at the numbers you would expect the HP to surpass the Sony. Not a chance. The sony doesn't have dpi. It is a new technology called, dye sublimation transfer printing. It takes three colors (yellow, magenta, cyan) and layers the colors. Than it applies a protective coat to the picture so there will be no color shifting on the prints in the future. From a distance you can barely tell the difference between the HP and the Sony. Up close it isn't even a challenge. You can hold a photomat print up to the Sony and you can't tell the difference.

Some specifications on the printer is 90 seconds for a 4x6 print and 60 for a smaller print. It has approx. 16,770,000 colors. The printer has a USB connector to plug it into you computer. I have a new digital cable box and it also plugs into there. This printer has the feature to fix your pictures on your tv set. It has a memory stick and PC card slot to download the pictures. The printer can handle about 999 files.

The only downside is you can only print 4x6 and smaller. If you buy you will obviously need a regular printer. Also, you have to change the printing cartridge every 25 prints. You don't have to worry about this because each pack of paper comes with a printer cartridge. It is very easy to install.

I am using this printer with the Sony S85 camera with 4.1 mega pixels.

In all you have to see the pictures to believe it.
