platzer's Full Review: Sony Digital Photo SV55 Thermal Printer
Well, I'm impressed! A barrier to electronic photos in my household was the quality of ink jet printers for photos and the fact that you had to buy large, expensive sheets and cut your photos to size. No more!
In the 48 hours I have had my SV55 printer, I am now sold on the idea of digital cameras to replace my traditional 35mm. The prints are clear, glossy, and quick. They look just like I picked them up from the photo counter at the store. It is important to set your camera to a 1280x960 resolution (e.g.). Lower resolutions are fine for emails, but not this printer. Set your resolution correctly and your photos are dramatically clear.
Like most electronics, you wish to use them right out of the box, however SONY does not include a USB cable (required to hook the printer to your PC). They do include a traditional video cable to hook the SV55 to your TV (on which it will work), however you will have the added expense of a USB for PC work. Also, the included software says it IS verified for WindowsXP, however I received a NON-VERIFIED error at installation. I continued anyway, and the setup worked just fine.
The documentation was also somewhat vague. As the printer will work on PC's, MAC's, and TV's, as well as different operating systems, it may take a few minutes to identify what instructions apply to your situation.
Shortcomings aside, I cannot imagine going back to a tradtional camera except for the most important pictures. For family, vacation, security, etc. The SV55 was worth every penny I spent. Everyone has been amazed at the quality from this small footprint device.
