| blautens's Full Review: RCA Lyra RD1021 (64 MB) MP3 Player |
I was looking for an MP3 player for my daughter's birthday (I use my iPaq for that) and shopped the web quite a bit until deciding on the RCA Lyra RD1021 player. Several features attracted me. One, it was very inexpensive ($69.99 at Walmart) but still expandable with SD cards, of which I already have several. Two, it was small enough to be considered VERY small and light, but it still had a display. Three, it works with MP3 (and MP3 Pro) and WMA files (WMA file support is important to me).
It seems to transfer files very rapidly, and it sounds great, although I must confess I used my own headphones when I tested it. The player is simple and easy to use, and seems to feel solidly built (albeit very light). It uses one AAA battery, so power shouldn't be hard to find if you're out and about.
It comes VERY complete with a USB cable, MusicMatch, a nifty little armband style case, and a Duracell AAA Alkaline battery.
I didn't bother with the MusicMatch, but I did follow the link to the upgraded firmware page on the RCA site and upgraded it prior to loading music on it.
Other than the lack of backlight for the LCD display, I can't argue with the performance of this player. It's simple enough to use for almost anyone, light and small enough for almost anyone, and it sounds great. If you're looking to store your entire music collection on it, you're on the wrong path, but it is somewhat expandable with very affordable Secure Digital cards.
