Pros: Price, easy of use, drag and drop, decent sound.
Cons: Headphones, no backlight.
The Bottom Line: A good buy, but you really need additional memory, so plan on spending another $35-$45 for 256MB SD card.

| heinrke's Full Review: RCA Lyra RD1021 (64 MB) MP3 Player |
I bought this unit for my 7 year old son, that has become a music fanatic, and loves all forms of music. I have a Rio S30 sport which I will make comparisons to.
The Lyra is simple to use, I did not install any of the software, just the drivers manually. Windows 98SE now recognizes it as a removable device, thus I can copy and paste. I had a 256 SD card I put in it, so he can put around 100 songs on it. I really liked the drag and drop option, different from the Rio, that only allows you to put songs on the unit via their own software.
The sound is decent in the ROCK mode, at the headphones sound good, but I have never really like the earclips, since I wear glasses, and I usually have to help him put them on.
There is no belt clip on the unit, it comes with an armband that is not really convenient.
The ID tags are not as detailed as the Rio's is, but adequate to recognize the song. There is no backlight so you can't see it in low light.
Durability could be an issue as it does not have the feel of a rugged unit.
I give this a 4 because is suits my son for his needs.
