I was up and running immediately with XP. I had heard problems with compatibility with ME but not XP. Feel free to email if you would like my help.

what Service Pack was installed on your PC (running Windows 2000) when you could not connect your RCA Lyra RD1071 to it ?

This player was great when I was running Windows 98 SE, but when I upgraded to Windows 2000, I could not get it to interface with my computer, despite upgrading the firmware I downloaded from the RCA website. I called the company (whose phone number was not published - I had to obtain through back channels), I was transferred from one customer service rep to another, finally to be told that there were known compatibility issues with this product, and that there was nothing that could be done. I asked for a refund of the product, and was transferred to a supervisor, who told me that the previous rep was mistaken - there were not any compatibility issues - and that my only recourse was to mail in the unit and have it repaired. I ended up returning the unit to the store I purchased it from, and bought a different brand. Upshot: a wonderful player if you are running Windows 98 - not a good choice if you run 2000 or XP. Also, don't expect a whole lot from the customer service department.
