did I get a defect?

Pros: it is very quiet, the lights are great with variable settings, strong blower

Cons: it is not working now, the dealer wants $85.00 just to look at it.

I installed the unit myself, and until I had the wall cut for external venting I just used the recycle feature. It seemed to turn off when I was boiling water (from the steam?), I finally got the hole in the wall and the proper venting (I see others have had this same delay problem), but now it is not working again. As it has been just over a year, the warranty is not covering anything.
I hope I don't have to purchase another one.
