BEWARE! Denon warranty service is lousy!

Cons: Worst warranty,customer service in the industry. Purchase at your own risk.
The Bottom Line: Denon's service after the sale is non-existent. Purchase any Denon product at your own risk.

This review is not about a piece of equipment... it is about the most important product/service a company can provide, service after the sale.
My AVR 4802 lasted 1 year and 8 months (to the day) before the DSP Board died. It has been in warranty service since August 27, 2003... and it is now January 6, 2004 (my official two year warranty ended on December 27, 2003... so my 4802 spent it's last four months of warranty service dead, on a shelf somewhere).
I have been without surround sound, the ability to switch between components, and having my entire AV setup disconnected for over four months. I am only able to connect 4 components to my television at one time (complete with sound coming through the TV... woohoo), no recording between different sources, no watching the Lord of the Rings in THX Surround.
I gave the unit to an Authorized Service Center, and they have been waiting for the back-ordered DSP Board since the first week of September. Denon makes the Service Center send in the defective board before they will swap out the unit. How can a board that is used in a current production model be on backorder?!? You can't even get a Customer Service phone number off their site to call and voice a complaint. Trying to contact Denon for ANY kind of service is a hassle.
How could I have spent $2400 on a receiver with such crappy service after the sale? I don't usually believe that the more expensive something is, the better it is... but this time I believed the hype. Disappointing.
As long as Denon's units work, they sound great... but if one malfunctions, get ready for a loooong wait.
