| brianakestyl's Full Review: Denon AVR-4802 7.1 Channels Receiver |
I recently bought a Denon 4802 at Magnolia Hi-Fi. It has a proliferate number of inputs, including optical and component as well as the normal type. I use the Denon as the primary switching center for all of my AV and game equipment. Gamecube, PS2, X-box, and DVD player plug in with room to spare and provide great realistic sound.
I have it set up with two front, two rear and a center channel speaker and the sounds are crisp and clear from each speaker with very little crossover.
The video game systems have optical out and this provides great sound, but the real treat is listening to DVDs in THX and dolby digital with the power of the Denon behind them. With two power supplies, the Denon can provide power to keep sounds distinct no matter how loud you prefer it.
The remote is a touch screen that has an optional light that comes in really useful. I find it fairly easy to use and there are pop-up menus on the TV that allow speaker settings and all the intricacies a person could want. Some buttons are disabled in different modes, which is kind of awkward at first, but you can get used to it. I have not tried to program this remote or do anything more complicated than set up the system and switch from one device to another, so I can not prove or disprove the rumors that the remote is unsuitable in this respect.
The only other thing is to get someone else to carry the Denon to wherever you want to put it and to make sure to buy a specialty power supply for your AV equipment. Besides being extremely useful, the power supply has neat techno lights that are sure to impress anyone sitting in front of your entertainment center.
Price includes power supply, optical cabling, extra warranty.
The one thing that I did NOT like about this receiver is Denon's sneaky way of price fixing. If you buy the receiver from any of the online stores, they are NOT "Authorized Denon Resellers", therefore the warranty on the system is void. If you buy it from an "Authorized Denon Reseller", they sell it for about $800 more. YMMV.
