Great entry level A/V receiver!

Pros: Dolby digital, DTS-ES. Great receiver for the money!
Cons: Does not decode Dolby Digital EX. Remote is not easy to use.
The Bottom Line: If you want a great sounding home theater receiver at a budget price, give the SA-HE100 some careful consideration.

I purchased the Panasonic SA-HE 100 in part based on the reviews posted here and on other sites. In all, I feel it is a very good choice for the budget conscious consumer looking for a good entry level home theater receiver.
The good...
The receiver has a lot of options, such as Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS, DTS-ES, and Dolby Pro-logic II. The sound is crisp and clear, especially with the Sony SA-VE 335 surround sound speaker system I purchased for use with the system. The receiver can be configured for use with a wide variety of speaker systems and with just about any video connections you can imagine. It did take some tweaking to get the best sound output.
The bad...
I just don't like the remote that much. It is pretty small, and while it does allow me to control all of the components of my system, it does not have all the controls I want. (like pause or channel recall for example) Only a few of the buttons are illuminated, and those aren't even the most used ones.
The ugly...
As mentioned in another review, this unit DOES NOT HAVE DOLBY DIGITAL-EX decoding capabilities even though the panasonic canada site SPECIFICALLY states that it does. The user manual even mentions DD-EX. This claim should be immediately removed from all panasonic sites, but has not.
In conclusion...
This is a very good unit for the price. If you are looking for great sound at a reasonable price, the Panasonic SA-HE100 is worth a second look. If you NEED DD-EX, look elsewhere (i.e. the SA-HE200)
