When I decided to upgrade my pro logic only receiver with a budget of $250 I only had a few local choices. Of these, the Technics had the best features for the money.
Setting up he system was easy, and I wasn't worried about heat since the receiver was placed on top of my TV (I would never put this unit in a rack with little space).
Sound quality for a home theater system is very good, (I never crank the system up since for movies, anything past 1/3 is too loud). The system supports optical inputs for digital signals (but no coax), has a separate subwoofer line, and uses screw down caps for speakers instead of cheaper clips.
Overall I am pleased with the receiver and have had no problems for over 8 months.
