I myself was a huge Warcraft II fan back in the day, and I still play the game occasionally, but when I first heard about Starcraft in an ad in my Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal box, I wasn't too excited, I thought they would ruin the "craft" series by taking it into the future. After being plagued by release delays, I thought I had heard the last of Starcraft, that is until I overheard two of my friends talking about getting together for an online match. I was astonished to hear that the game had pulled through, but was sure it wouldn't be any good. Boy was I wrong. After merely reading my friend's instruction book, I was hooked. Tons of units, complicated and deep gameplay, and great multiplayer; what more could a gamer want?
After actually playing the game, I will say it lived up to the excitement. The game is a ton of fun, and easy to get wrapped up into. A gamer could play and a several hour-long battle and be so immersed he wouldn't even know (that's how I was).
Fans of Warcraft shouldn't hesitate on this one, I know, it may seem like it's too far from the tradition, but in this case, that's a good thing. You'll be glad you played it, I certainly was.
