jmaxwell76's Full Review: Milwaukee Tool 8955 Upright Vacuum
I recently went to the vacuum store to purchase a Dyson Animal. I went to their website and to Epinions to gather as much information about the vacuum before I purchased it. When I informed the salesman that I was looking at the Dyson Animal, he politely informed me that it was not as good as the advertising. Dismayed, I listened to his salespitch. The salesman compared the Dyson Animal to the Riccar 8955. I have never heard of Riccar, but I have never heard of Dyson before their ads hit the airwaves. I was quite impressed by the Riccar when actual demonstrations were done between the two vacuums. My main reason for looking for a new vacuum was that my old Hoover bagless could not pickup dog hair off the furniture. I used to have to put on rubber dishwashing gloves and "rub" the couch to get the dog hair off. The salesman informed me that I could get a furniture tool with any vacuum, not just Dyson. Not convinced, the salesman offered to let me take the Riccar home and test it.
The test was a huge success. This vacuum cleaned my floors and furniture so well, I was in awe. I normally do not vacuum, but I vacuumed the whole house when I brought home the Riccar. The salesman also let me take home an extension hose and a furniture tool. The furniture tool, the same one the Dyson comes with, cleaned my furniture perfectly. I also was able to clean the throw pillows on the couch. The carpet was "fluffed" to the point, I could see my tread pattern from my shoes after vacuuming. Due to the immense sucking power of this vacuum, an air adjustment valve is located on the back when using the tools. I attempted to vacuum my Pergo floors without opening the valve to find out that the tool literally will not move once placed on the floor.
This vacuum exceeded my expectations. Maybe it was because I was used to using a Hoover bagless. The Riccar will not be returned tomorrow, I will be calling the salesman to let him I know I will be keeping the vacuum.
Some might point out that with a bag model, you have to keep replacing the "messy" bags. With my old Hoover I would have to dump the canister one time after vacuuming the downstairs, and again after vacuuming the upstairs. Dumping of the canister always resulted in dust going everywhere in the kitchen. Dumping one bag is less painlful and dirty. The salesman also pointed out that instead of replacing the whole beater brush, you can replace the bristles only. The vacuum is also self adjusting so you do not have to guess what pile height you need to get a good job done.
One last thing, the Riccar 8955 comes with a five year warranty from a company that has been around for a while. Granted I have only had the vacuum for a day, but from the results I got, I look forward to keeping this Riccar for a long time. I would recommend this vacuum to anyone who is willing to pay more for a quality vacuum. It is not cheap, but you get what you pay for.
