Great Vacuum!!! Very Powerful and Made in the USA! We love it!!

Pros: Durabilty and very powerful. Lots of others.

Cons: Style, it's not sexy. Very basic look.

The Bottom Line: I would recommend this vacuum to anybody looking for a well built vacuum and doesn't care about style. It's powerful, made in the USA, and very durable.

After lots of online research and several trips to look at vacuums I decided on the Riccar 8955.

Several reasons got me to this decision.

1. Durability - This vacuum should last a very long time. Lots of metal and quality built.
2. Made in the USA. I still look for products made here. Most people don't but if do there are not many choices in vacuums.
3. Suction Power. We tested it at the store and have already given it a workout at home. Very powerful. Does a great job on cat hair also. Even with the 15 foot extension hose it does a very nice job picking up dirt and cat hair.
4. Free acessory kit from the dealer. I bought from a local dealer. Nice guy and he has a good rep for service. A-1 Vacuum in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
5. Switch for moving from carpets to floors. Just flip it and the roller shuts off.
6. It uses a bag. Everybody has their perferance and mine is to have a bag. I don't like the mess of bagless system. To much to clean up for me. I always had to clean it outside, when I tried to clean it inside it create a dust storm. Never tried a Dyson so I don't have much knowledge on how they clean up.
7. 5 Year Warranty. Yes 5 years. Longest I could find. During that 5 years I get a once a year tune-up. Not sure if that was from Riccar or the dealer threw it in.
8. Automatic light indicator for full bag. If you buy one the owner's manual is in the bag chamber. Take it out or you will think the bag is full right away. Hahahahaha.
9. Rubber Wheels - Not hard plastic.
10. Metal Handle - No Plastic to crack last my last one!
11. 33 Foot power cord. Nice! My last one was about 15 feet. That was not long enough.
12. Allegry filter. I have cats and this is a big plus. When I vacuumed with my old Eureka, you could smell the dust when I was done. Not now!!
13. Automatic Carpet Height Adjustment.
14. Replaceable Agitator Brush Strips. You can replace just the brush strips and not the entire agitator.

I'm not saying the Riccar 8955 is for everybody. But I'm very happy. I paid $499 and they threw in a $40 acessory kit.

The main con I can see but not for me. It's not pretty or sexy like the Dyson. But it's a vacuum. I really don't care. But some may.
