Ricoh Aficio 1035
Written: May 25 '02
Ricoh continues to show their dedication to catch to up to Canon, the #1 manufacturer of copiers, by slipping to #2 surpassing Xerox (Source: DataQuest). And the Aficio 1035 is the one of the reasons why. It is their newest segment 3 digital copier that allows for simple copy jobs for the simple office that still chooses to have separate fax and print devices. All the way to a fully configured network device that allows faxing and printing @ speeds of 35 images per minute as well copy at 35 pages per minute. It comes standard with 2 user adjustable trays holding 1,000 total sheets of either letter, legal or ledger sized paper. Two-sided copying is also standard. I would recommend adding the feeder which can hold up to 50 sheets. This is a digital unit so it comes with the standard 32MB RAM and 5.1 GB Hard Drive. Some standard features are Image Combination, Image Separation, Two-page Separation, Job Build and Booklet (non-stapled). When configured with the Print/Scan DIMM Type 1045 the Aficio 1035 also becomes a powerful 42 page per minute scanner when a feeder is attached. You can scan hard copy documents into your network for distribution to your workstations either by "push" or "pull" technology. The user may "push" the information using the Aficio 1035's Document Server and distribute information by choosing the destination designated by email address or the user may "pull" the information from the similar Document Server. The Aficio 1035 can also be configured with single position staple finisher or a multiposition staple finisher. When attached both finishers allow for offset sort which is no longer limited to 30 pages that existed in old bin finishers. When sorting is chosen on the new finishers, true page output is the reason why copy jobs come out as truly finished sets. To manage the multiple types of sources coming into the Aficio 1035 the multipostion stapler finisher separates faxes, prints and copies in their own designated tray. In real world situations when a fax, print and copy image is made on the Aficio 1035 at the same time, the different types of documents are interleved within. Imagine if you are standing right next to a conveyeur belt having copies on them. You have in your hand a fax and you just place it on the moving belt in between 2 copies. This is truly a way to be productive so that the user does not have to wait until the copy job is done to retrieve their fax. This goes the same with prints. The Document Server, which I touched on earlier, is a truly unique device that allows two or more different users to send their documents to the Aficio 1035 and then merge them together so that when ready to print the 2 documents come out as 1. The recommended total volume, total being fax, prints and copies, per month should not exceed 15,000 images. Anyone with higher volume than this should consider the Aficio 1045.
