I've played the board version of Risk, and always wondered: what would it be like to play it on a PC. Now I know: brilliant.
Risk 2 combines new and old elements of the classic board game to make it a superb experience.
The graphics and sound here are what you would expect: functional, and very effective. In fact the interface is very nice, and easy to use.
On starting the game you've got a load of options: you can either take on the computer, some friends, or try some scenarios where you have to accumulate points by taking out your opponents.
However, Risk is best, as always, when you play with friends. In the multiplayer mode, you've got Classic Risk, which plays by the same rules as the game, or you can choose the all new Same-Time mode.
In my opinion, this brings the game to life. In Same-Time mode, no-one sees what anyone is attacking, or where they have placed their battalions, until the end of the round when everyone has had their go. This makes the game far more dynamic, and a whole new Risk stategy evolves.
To boot, there are a whole host of computer opponents, with varying characteristics, but sometimes the computer AI can be weak and illogical, but now, thinking about it, so can us humans, so I'll let them off.
If you're a fan of Risk, I'd strongly urge you to get this game. It's highly addictive, and it will definately have you coming back for more.
