Everyone wants to feel like they can conquer the world at one time or another. Risk is just the game for those moments. Just yesterday my little sister called me up begging to play. She couldn't get the idea out of her mind after hearing mom say, "Fortifying countries" the other day. Sound silly?
Since we've enjoyed playing the board game version so much at family gathering and such, we finally went out and got the computer game. With oodles of possible paying variations you can play by yourself, or with up to 6 people at a time. The general graphics are understandable for the type of game it is (based on an originally board game) and then they will blow you away when you conquer someone...
The only drawback I've seen so far is the seat shuffling, especially at the very beginning. In order for each person to take their turn you either have to all cram around the computer, or play musical chairs (often!) If you decide to all stay present you will either forfeit any secrecy with the cards you receive (to possibly make sets) or everyone will have to agree to cover their eyes when the revealing moment comes.
The best part of it as is that you can get through a whole game with out knocking all the tiny little pieces on the floor and maybe even losing them. Plus you can save a potentially long game to play later.
The multi-player capabilities allow you to hook up to other unknown (or known if your friends have the game too) Risk players via the internet. This brings in a whole new world of people and strategies to go up against!
