| quincydubois's Full Review: Rotel RX-965 Receiver |
I bought this with other Rotel componetry (two channel amp, six channel bridgeable amp, switching station, etc.) based on recommendations of the knowledgable salesman at a local and respected high-end audio store. Part of my decision ws based on the beautiful brochure that Rotel publishes, which intimates that the company designs product in Britain and then builds product in Japan. But when I opened the package I noted that the product is manufactured in Taiwan! Disappointing. I do business in Taiwan and know that the electronics industry there builds low quality, commodity goods. This product comes from company that has "won the bid" and the company then produces it to "spec" ... for as low a cost as possible. The warranty is 5 years. You may need it. My unit broke and had to be sent off for repair. A month later it was returned and I had to pay $60 for shipping charges. Some warranty. Performance? Well, the tuner unit is terrible. Otherwise all other features/specs are quite good, though I think overpriced. As an update, the unit has again failed. Off to repair again and then you will find it on e-Bay!
