Ease of Use:
Pros:Durability, reclining seats, good accessories, easy clean, industrial looking
Cons:Expensive, can tip if not loaded properly, industrial looking
The Bottom Line: Save your money and sanity- buy a Runabout first!
I bought the Runabout Quad because I have two sets of twins, all less than two years in age. There are few quad stroller options, I researched them all carefully because it was such an important purchase for our family. I chose the Runabout Quad because of the high weight limits of the seats, long term durability, and the ability to recline the seats for infants.
The Runabout can hold up to 50 lbs. per seat which means I should be able to use this stroller for at least a couple of years yet, given the purchase price (over $1000 with accessories) this is very important to me. I have used this stroller for walks around the neighborhood, going to the mall, and even pushed it through grass at parks. It is built very ruggidly and I can tell it will hold up dispite the obvious abuse it takes carrying four children around on an almost daily basis.
The ability to recline the seats is very important if you intend to use the stroller with young children. The downside is that though the seats recline, the safety harnesses don't adjust very snugly for infants in the crotch. With a head insert, my babies do seem pretty comfortable and a full body insert would have maybe reduced the loosness of the crotch strap.
The large wheels handle the weight of four children easily, and on a flat surface even my six year old can push it! The stationary front wheel makes the stroller very stable but makes turns more difficult. I have put many miles on this stroller and have got over the learning curve of "driving" it and now find this to be an acceptable trade.
This stroller did not fit in the back of our minivan, so we purchased the optional hitch carrier. It was awkward but not difficult to load onto the carrier, the extra steps were annoying but still worth having this stroller over one of the folding less sturdy quads. We now have a 12 passenger van and this stroller fits in the back of the van with the last row of seats removed. Given that the stroller weighs under 50 lbs. I have no trouble hoisting it into the van by myself. It is awkward, but once again not difficult once you learn.
I find the stroller unattractive, a bit too utilitarian, and it doesn't look like it would be comfortable for the children. My toddlers however love the stroller and never complain about it not being comfortable and my husband loves that the stroller is very "space age" looking and gets compliments from other men when he is out with the kids.
I am glad that I looked past the cost and bought this stroller, it has been life changing. It would be much more difficult to leave the house without the Runabout and with four very young children it is critical to not feel "trapped" at home. I would reccomend anyone with multiple young children to buy a Runabout, in fact I'm disappointed that I didn't buy the twin version with my first twins as we wasted a lot of money on crappy strollers already.
