Pros: inexpensive
Cons: Does not work for brown rice, very messy and very large
The Bottom Line: This product does not work for making brown rice (slow-cooking rice). The operating temperature is too high (no adjustment) and it spews starchy hot steam all over your kitchen!

| huggybunny's Full Review: Salton RTC10 10-Cup Rice Cooker |
I received the RTC10 rice cooker as a gift. I wanted a rice cooker to free up the stovetop. We eat a lot of rice, but only brown rice or wild rice.
I've used the product six times now, trying to find best cooking conditions, but the product behaves inconsistently (same water/rice ratios, different results). I will not use it again. In my epinion, there is nothing to love about it!
What I hate about it:
1. Brown rice requires special instructions and only a small amount can be prepared at a time. I can use a maximum of one 'rice cup' (about 1/2 measuring cup) of rice with 6 cups of water. (Note that ratio for stovetop brown rice is 2.5 cups water per 1 cup rice!)
2. There is a steam 'vent hole' in the top of the lid. This allows starchy hot steam/water to spurt all over the counter and floor. It is an unbelievable mess!
3. There is no temperature adjustment--it is just very hot. The rice/water mixture begins to boil right away and steam starts shooting out the vent hole. I have to stop it manually before the water is gone and switch it to Warm or the rice burns.
4. It takes up far too much space on the countertop: this thing is huge and outputs only 2 servings of rice at a go!
Cooked on the stovetop in a pan (with tight-fitting lid and temperature on low) my brown rice is perfect every time and no mess! My Salton rice cooker is going into the cellar until our next yard sale. Don't buy it!
