| e_commentor's Full Review: Samsung SyncMasterâ„¢ 710MP 17 inch LCD Monitor |
My office uses Samsung SyncMaster 710MP as a LCD Monitor and as a TV for testing Video Conferencing. Our product has provides real time video conferencing on TV and therefore we need to have a TV to test it. The LCD monitor saves a lot of space since we can switch between LCD Monitor and the TV on a single unit besides saving space due to LCD instead of regular monitors.
The Front Buttons There are mini rectangular button on the bottom side of the TV.The Channel Selection, Volume Control, Power ON/OFF do their obvious jobs. There is Menu button for navigation, that can be used to perform variety of task, including Manual tuning of TV Channels, Brightness and contrast settings. The SyncMaster can accept four sources for Display - The S-Video,Composite Video, Analog VGA an TV Channels. This can be selected from the Source button. There is a lot of lag time between pressing of button and the SyncMaster actually switching to the required
source - as much as 3 to 4 seconds. However, this should not be of big concern, as usual, user will not be switching source too often.
The Speaker The Speaker section is on the bottom side of the LCD Monitor rather than the left and the right sides. The sound quality is ok, but not stereo quality.
Quality The quality of the LCD, hooked to computer is good. The TV display lacks brightness that I see in plazma TVs or normal TVs for that matter. The LCD TVs usually lacks brightness, but in this one it is noticeable. If you plan to use it primarily for TV viewing , I will recommend against it. If however, you are looking for using it primarily for hooking it to computer it is nice.
Besides brightness, there is noticieable noise when viewing TV. This potentially is due to the fact that the resolution of the LCD is 1280 x 1024 which does not align with the 480 lines of the NTSC TV display. The result is graininess.
Other The SyncMaster can be placed on the top of the table or can be mounted on wall. The base of the LCD can rotate about an axis ( A Hinge) parallel to the bottom edge of the LCD. Its fully vertical position suits for wall mounting and horizontal position suits top of table positioning.
The Remote is miniature. I would personally prefer a Remote with bigger buttons and bigger size so that it aligns with the fingers. You will have to look at the buttons and align your fingers before actually pushing it to make sure you pressed the right button. But it works and technically I have no complaint against it.
It does not has Picture in Picture capability that would have been of great help to us.
