Pros: It took forever for me to kill it, and I tried hard!
Cons: Couldn't find an identical replacement, maybe out of production?
The Bottom Line: Virtually indestructible - if you can find one, buy it!

| davidcipriano's Full Review: Samsung SW 248F CD-RW Burner |
When I bought my computer a couple years ago, I didn't know the first thing about optical drives. This was merely one of the less expensive CD-Rom drives which the manufacturer was offering. Since then I have learned a lot, and I have used that knowledge to work this poor little drive overtime! I'll skip the boring details - the bottom line is: I have burned literally thousands of CDs with it. Not to mention how many it has played. And it's still running. I'm very impressed, to say the least! No piece of electronics should have to put up with the abuse which I have heaped on this one! It reminds me of the old Timex ads... This drive took a licking, and it's still ticking! I'll admit, it is finally on its last legs. It makes funny noises when it's running, and I can tell it's not going to hold up much longer. So, you want to know what I'm going to do about it? I'm replacing it with another Samsung, almost the exact same model! I would have bought the same one if I could find it, but I couldn't. Instead, I am getting the 52x model, for under $30. I expect it will be as tough as this one was...
