Pros: Feels expensive, looks awesome and performs even better!

Cons: Are you kidding? This is the coolest monitor I've ever seen.

The Bottom Line: This is cool for anyone who wants awesome styling combined with great performance. I love this monitor.

I run a design firm based in Seattle, but I'm currently working from my Manhattan apartment. Why is this important? Because I used the little shipping box to transport this monitor to NYC and the sturdy little thing held up.

Upon arrival I was worried that the whole thing would be beat up and damaged (I bough online). But to my surprise everything was neatly packaged and in immaculate condition. When plugging it in I saw 1 dead pixel and the other 2 that are stuck in shades of gray. But none were in the center of the monitor. (Up to 9 dead pixels is considered "ok")

I've been using this monitor for about 3 months at the time of this review.

Mostly to Designers:
Being a Graphic Designer I was very worried about switching to a TFT Monitor from a CRT. I was mostly worried about accurate color representation and the white points being too white. Note: Using 5000K at 2.2 Gamma set at 50 brightness the white is at 126cd/m² and black at 0.16cd/m². Because of my office has three windows being directly behind me I set my brightness at 59 to make things easier to see during direct light. However, when designing I keep in mind to always add a little extra saturation to photos and to save things at about 10% brighter. This is because this monitor's colors are so vibrant if I go with what it shows I'm sure other people will see something a bit more muddy.

Also, if you're working with Photoshop make sure to dump the current ICC (sRGB IEC61966-2.1) profile and use the "Monitor RGB - Samsung - Natural Color Pro 1.0 ICM" or newer. Otherwise you'll see all your grays are gone and you'll only see shades of brown instead of gray.

To Everyone:
This is an awesome Monitor! Brushed metal looks cool, touch sensitive on/off sensor (no not button sensor) makes a cool "beep" noise when you hover your finger over it. One of my friends described it as "you know something is expensive when it beeps like this". Nothing about this monitor feels of low quality or cheap. The footprint is small response times are great easy to set up. The "sweet spot" is huge. You can actually shift around in your seat quite a bit without the colors changing on you. Also; the monitor rotates sideways so you can see your word documents better.

Also if you want to get cool speakers that color/texture match the monitor and have a small profile sub that stashes neatly behind it or on the floor go with the TDK Tremor S150 (best computer speakers I ever owned review to come soon).

The software it comes with allows you to store different profiles. For example on my machine I have my preset for design. But when my girlfriend uses it, she set up the colors to how she likes it and thinks things look "pretty" so whenever either one of us logs into XP with their username it automatically loads those presets they set up for themselves.

UPDATE: August 18, 2004

The monitor unexpectedly stopped working in digital mode (DVI). Initially I thought it would have been the graphics card because the monitor still worked fine in Analog mode.

After replacing the graphics card I realized it must be the monitor. So I called 1800-SAMSUNG and got on the phone with their support staff. They offered two choices for equipment replacement.

1. They send a replacement monitor to a UPS store and I go in with my current monitor and swap it out. (They said I don't even need a box for this). Also this method does not have them use your credit card to hold the item.

2. They put a hold for the amount on your credit card and deliver you the replacement monitor and you ship yours out yourself.

I went with option number one since I didn't feel like giving anyone my credit card number and just incase didn't want to be liable for shipping the item out from my location via UPS.

So the item was delivered to the UPS store 5 business days later. Only I never received a call from UPS notifying me that the item was there. I called and followed up with Samsung, they pointed me to the store that was holding the monitor I went in dropped mine off picked up the new one and went home.

UPS claims they couldn't call me since Samsung did not provide them with a contact number.

Side note: The new monitor I received does not have any dead pixels (yet).
