Pros: A 27" screen at a good price that broadcasts a picture like it's supposed to.
Cons: Curved screen reflects light. Menu functions not easily accessible.
The Bottom Line: It functions like it's supposed to and worthwhile for the money spent at that time.

| del-1's Full Review: Samsung TXK2754 27 inch TV |
I purchased this TV as an extra television set for my bedroom about 5 years ago. I wanted something that worked and wasn't expensive since this was not my main television set. Well the Samsung TXK2754 27" TV appeared to fit the bill. At that time, other 27" TV's were well into the mid to upper $300 range. I purchased this from Best Buy and declined their extended warranty. And, fortunately, have never needed it for this Television.
Basics
* 27" Diagonal Screen, 120V, 60 Hz, 110 Watts
* Came with an extensive manual with pictures of the menus and overall nice documentation
* Front panel buttons include Menu, Vol up/down, Ch up/down, Power On/Off. [Convenient if you can't locate the remote]
* Front Video, RCA R/L Input. [Nice for plugging in your digital camera/camcorder/video games]
* Rear Jacks have One set of Video Out, RCA R/L and TWO Video In, RCA R/L and One VHF/UHF Input for Antenna or Cable Connection
* Nice sized Remote with good weighting. Button locations and ergonomics make sense. Channels are selected with two numbers. To select channels over 100 you have to hit the 100 key and then the next two digits. Buttons: Power, TV/Video, #'s 1-9, pre-channel, surf, sleep, MTS multichannel television stereo, V Chip, Display, Mute, Menu, Ch Up/Down, Vol Up/Down
* Menu system controls Language, Plug & Play, Caption, Time, Auto Clock Set, V-chip. Multiple sub-sections.
POSITIVES
The picture is sharp, clear, bright
It actually has pretty good sound although I can't say I've watched anything more than VHS movies on the television. You can adjust "surround," "turbo," treble, bass, balance.
Easy Sleep Function
NEGATIVES
- The remote needs to be directly aimed at the television to work
- The remote is not programmable (But the higher end Samsung TV's do come with a programmable remote)
- For some reason this model Samsung TV could not be controlled by my new Sony VCR Remote (even though the sony has over 100 programmed television sets!)
- There is a slight delay after pushing a button on the remote and the television responding. It may be milliseconds but I'm just used to a faster response because of my other television sets.
- To turn on closed captioning you have to select it through the menu system by hitting MENU > DOWN > DOWN > DOWN > SELECT > DOWN > MENU > MENU >MENU. Personally it's too many presses. It would be nice to have a separate button controlling closed captioning.
- The screen is curved which causes reflections from light sources
- The top of the television set is tilted forward at about a 3 degree angle and thus anything placed on top of the Tv tends to want to slide forward
- If you use the TV/VIDEO button for your VCR, you have to scroll through VIDEO 1, VIDEO 2, VIDEO 3 before coming back to TV. My Sony allows hitting a channel button (up/down) and just goes back to TV saving some time without scrolling through all the VIDEO inputs. Just a nice touch that the Samsung does not have.
RANDOM INFO
> I never used the V Chip function so unable to comment.
> I never used the Surf function so unable to comment.
SUMMARY
* This is a cut & dry television set. That is to say, there are no fancy inputs such as S-video, or special functions such as Picture-in-picture with an additional tuner. It is not an HDTV. The functions of the TV could benefit from more thoughtful programming.
