Like many VCR's it does the basics, however this one much more. It is one of the state of the art kinds.
New features include an option in setting up the timer for recording a program. This new option allows you to record something any day of the week and it will record on that day and time indefinitely without any reprogramming. You can also have it record a program that is on monday to friday at the same time on those days of course, again without any reprogramming.
The remote is very ergonomically friendly requiring two AA batteries. Two still frame slow motion modes is an absolute fancy for all movies. A number of different fast forward speeds allows you to not miss a thing while you seek to find certain spots of interest or to just go right ahead and fast. An added feature that has in the past been dubbed useless engineering is the eject button on the remote control. Never the less the tape is out before you get to the VCR to change it so don't complain.
In addition you can also program the remote to work your TV. I have not done this, but you can. Digital tracking was an inevitable innovation.
The best advancement in this model is the audio and video connections located at the front of the unit. This allows you to not go through the pain staking process of removing the VCR from it's space pulling on all the cords at the same time. You just have to plug in your video game system or video camera in the front of the unit. This is ideal for those who utilize many other devices in conjunction with the VCR.
In addition to this it has 4 heads and high speed rewind (just like the ones made to rewind tapes).
