| tyoke's Full Review: SanDisk SDMX1 (1 GB) MP3 Player |
I was very excited when I first purchased this unit. I used it for approx. 40 days and then it literally died. I would push the power button and just see the hour glass for a second, then it would fade, but the background light would stay on. No song, nothing. Then I couldn't get it to turn off. At one point after messing with it, I got the first song in my playlist to appear and actually play, but only for a few seconds. I couldn't forward or reverse to another song. Bizarre. I figured maybe a battery issue. Nope. I called support and they told me to re-format the drive. Nope. Of course it was ten days past the store warranty period so I had to return it to SanDisk and this is where it got worse. It took OVER A MONTH to receive a replacement unit and only then after multiple phone calls. When I did receive the unit, it was obviously not a new one but a refurbished older one AND they neglected to include the earbuds, USB cord, or armband. It was still useless unless I wanted to go out and buy my own accessories. It took several more phone calls and two more weeks to receive the remainder of my unit. When I did, the USB cord was about 2 feet shorter to now a mere 10 inches. So, I have to lay the unit on the floor to download songs. What a joke. Additionally, the software CD that accompanied the replacement had been manually burned and had some techie's handwriting on it. Besides the above, the unit has the sturdiness of a Tic Tac container and the earbuds are worthless (but I am picky about earbud comfort). I have absolutely no faith in this product or their service department and unfortunately feel it is probably only a matter of time before this (refurbished) replacement chokes as well. As my title says, don't bother. If you're going to spend $150 - $180 on an MP3 player buy something else.
