12 years ago I bought (through American Express) the top of the line FISHER "Studio Standard" system. Two-hundred watts PER CHANNEL stereo with a unique 5-disc CD changer, speakers that weigh 85 lbs each and stand 4' tall, and much more, including a 71-button, 213-function remote and a beautiful 26" stereo television.
I had a darkly gleeming system that sprawled across an entire wall of my living room and was the envy of all my friends. Well, styles come and go and yet the Fisher hung in there, looking good and working perfectly all these years.
Finally I could stand it no longer. All my friends were getting sleek large-screen TVs and mine seemed to shrink with every viewing. For the first time in my life, I was suffering from size envy.
Learning that the long-venerated FISHER Electronics Company had been swallowed by, gasp!, of all folks, the Sanyo Company, I began looking at Sanyos, hoping they might blend well with the Fisher system AND, most importantly, be compatible with FISHER's monster remote that took me the best part of two years to master.
Additionally, since I'm a bit of a video nut, I needed as many S-Video and other connections and outlets as I could find on a TV to adequately connect it to my system. I currently have two VCRs and a DVD player hooked up to it, in addition to the stereo system and those big speakers.
I found my 32" Sanyo at "Best Buy" and fell in love. Not only does it have MORE audio/video connectors than ANY other make at ANY price, it's bright, sharp and beautifully designed. Add to that the reasonable price (I paid a mere $369.00, which INCLUDED a free stand) and it's an unbeatable deal. (However, the remote that comes with it, a programmable glow-in-the-dark number, seems cheesy and inelegant. But it works well.)
Best news of all: The Sanyo DOES work perfectly with the old FISHER system and remote! Frankly, I'm considering moving the 32" into my bedroom and replacing it with Sanyo's mighty 36-incher. But that sounds vaguely decadent.
