| hc_ca's Full Review: Sanyo DS19310 19 inch TV |
I am reviewing an older model Sanyo 19" Color TV. It was manufactured in 1993 and goes under the model "DS19330".
Picture:
The quality of picture is still as good as the day I got the TV. The color is excellent and fully adjustable, and the resolution is adequate. One of my gripes with this TV is the graininess though. You can control the sharpness via an on-screen menu, which does reduce the grain a little bit, but it is still a little more prominent than other TV's nowadays.
There is significant moire pattern and color convergence too with this sanyo, and unfortunately, it cannot be adjusted. This is especially noticed when watching a DVD or when viewing low-light or low-color images. Again, reducing the sharpness helps a little.
Build Quality:
Pretty average overall. The casing is durable enough to withstand moving the TV around or whatnot, and the screen, as with any CRT unit, is thick enough to withstand a beating.
The buttons on the front feel nice, and last a long time. The vents for the TV are located in a very well engineered spot, on top but located vertically, rather than horizontally. This helps prevent too much dust from collecting inside the TV unit.
Features:
The Sanyo DS19330 comes with minimal features, especially the older generation models like mine. No A/V inputs, only coaxial, so you will need some sort of a VCR or DVD or A/V convertor to play any A/V units.
There are plenty of picture adjustments, including: Brightness, Contrast, Color, Tint, Sharpness and an AUTO setting for returning the settings to default.
Other features include closed captioning, channel add/del/auto, time, sleep, and air/cable selection
Durability:
As I have mentioned above, this TV is now 10 years old and it still produces LIKE NEW images! What is really amazing are the conditions this TV has gone through since I've owned it. I use it casually and therefore, I treat it somewhat harshly. I take it back and forth to school, where it sits in the back of my car for 700 miles. The TV sits in storage for 3 months in a row, temperatures ranging from -15 degrees F to 110 degrees F. Even after all of this, it still starts right up with absolutely no problems. All of this says something about good engineering and manufacturing.
Conclusion:
Sanyo does makes some excellent TV's, that aren't exactly well known or popular. Therefore, I recommend this TV for light-duty use, perhaps in a garage or dorm or whatnot. It's not exactly the highest quality tube on the martket, but it is relatively cheap and very long lasting.
