I think I have had this scanner for over two years, but I'm a little fuzzy on exactly when I got it. A friend of mine who's father owned some office got a sweet deal on a bunch of scanners through an online auction. He ended up paying like $5 bucks a piece because he bought a whole ton of them. So he asked if I wanted one and I said, "Of course." I mean, who in their right mind is going to pass up a free scanner? Not me. I had toyed with the idea of getting one, but didn't have the money. So this was definitely fortune smiling down on me. I took the scanner home and hooked it up to my computer. I remember it being a little bit of an ordeal, but nothing a computer illiterate moron like myself couldn't figure out in 30 minutes or so.And then there was some additional problem with the software, but I figured that out too.
So, finally I could scan photos into the computer. Hallelujah. Well, the scanning goes very slowly, very very slowly. It got to the point where I just didn't bother unless it was something I really needed to have on the computer. I would say that I only used the scanner once a month, maybe less. This didn't really bother me though, because it isn't like I paid for the thing. When I did use it, aside from how slowly it worked, the quality of the scanned photos is good. I don't like the software that came with the scanner, it seems ancient and kind of clumsy to work with.If I use the scanner now I scan the image, save it and then transfer it elsewhere in the computer so that I can work on it.
Then last Christmas I purchased a digital camera ( check out the review for that product if you are interested ) and the scanner faded into the background. The camera is way easier to deal with and the images are much better. I still use the scanner occasionally, if there is some artwork or a photograph I need on the computer, but otherwise it is useless.
I think that with this scanner you probably get exactly what you pay for, or in my case a lot more than I paid for. It is an inexpensive scanner and you can really tell. It gets the job done and is reliable and seems sturdy. If I were going to actually buy a scanner I would go in for something nicer than this, something faster too. This is good for anyone who wants a basic, no frills kind of scanner. Just don't expect too much from this product, it delivers only the minimum.
