fair_is_fair's Full Review: Nuance Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred 7 Full V...
I am currently using Dragon seven to write this review. I have been using Dragon software since version three. It is the ideal tool for someone with substandard typing skills like myself. It is especially helpful for those with no typing skills. Although some wordprocessing skills are still needed, Dragon software will do most of the work. After five minutes of training NaturallySpeaking will recognize your voice with a high degree of accuracy. The more you train the better NaturallySpeaking will get. Another thing you need to understand about NaturallySpeaking is that you need to train it to recognize words you use but are not in its database. Version seven makes correcting mistakes and training words and phrases much easier than older versions. There is a handy bar available at the top of the screen with all the options you need to quickly train words or correct mistakes. Dragon NaturallySpeaking also utilizes VoiceCommands. You can virtually train it to do anything. Such as" go to the next page"," close"," enter", etc. editing your written work is all done by voice as well. For example:" go back six words","scratch that(will undo the last entry)"," go forward six spaces" etc. It takes a lot of time to learn how to work with Dragon NaturallySpeaking but the long-term results are extremely laborsaving. Dragon is fast. It can recognise up to 160 wpm with proper dictation. It would be ideal in a busy office environment. I only use it for basic e-mail and letterwriting uses. I have barely scratched the surface. Another nice feature of version seven is that it will read back to you what you have written in your own voice. Dragon will also transcribe from different audio sources. Dragon will also read back any written work in a variety of voices. All in all I am very happy with version seven. It is easier to use, faster to train, and more accurate than older versions and the read back and transcribe modes are very handy. You should have a hefty computer system with lots of ram to run Dragon. I have a one gig processor with 768 ram. I would think newer and high-powered systems with high speed ram would really shine with Naturally Speaking.
