One thing about DVD Recorder/Players is that they do not record DVDs you rent from Blockbuster or Hollywood. Except maybe the PANASONIC DMR-E100 because it has a 120 GB hard drive in addition to being a DVD Recorder/Player. The cool thing about DVD Recorder/Players is that you can update your home movie library from VHS onto easier to use DVDs. You can edit your old VHS movies, move scenes, clear up the picture, etc. You can also put digital pictures and digital camcorder material onto these burnable DVDs, referred to as DVD-Rs. That's ultimately why you should be looking at these. If you want to pirate movies, get a computer DVD burner and DVD ripping software (approx. $99) and burn away!

The DV-RW2U

If you're like me, the name of this DVD recorder conjures up images of an R2D2 type machine. But it's not really that cool. The big thing that everyone first brings up about the RW2 is that Sharp incorporated an iLink connection. What this means is you can directly transfer the information from a digital camcorder to a DVD disc. The one-touch recording is a nice feature that some DVD recorders do not have. In addition to recording, the RW2U is a DVD player that comes with all the standard features of a DVD player.

Overall

The RW2U is a good DVD player and a good DVD recorder. You might want to consider this one, though I recommend the PANASONIC DMR-E100. It is simple to use, even the editing functions of the DVD recorder.
