| hawke75's Full Review: Sharp Aquos LC-37HV4E 37 in. HDTV-Ready TV |
After comparing several sets including both plasma and LCD at local stores, we decided on the 37" Sharp because of picture quality, styling, size and anticipated longevity. We bought the set from an online merchant in New York. Being in Boston we naively expected the unit would ship from somewhere nearby. Our delivery came from Portland, OR, and took three weeks reportedly because of ice storms on the west coast.
Once the unit arrived, setting it up was quick and simple. The unit itself weighs 30 pounds less than the old 24" set it is replacing, and without the side speakers fits perfectly in a wall shelf space in our living room.
Making connections to external speakers, computer, DVD through the external box which we have vertically floor mounted on the included base is much easier than having to reach behind the display itself.
What is most important, of course, is picture quality, and this is amazing, even better in our home than it seemed to be in various stores. I had read criticisms of LCD ability to show blacks and motion. If this was once true, it is not any longer, at least on this set. We couldn't want or even imagine a better picture, particularly on HDTV broadcasts.
When changing from an HD to a conventional signal, Sharp provides several options, of which we have found the "smart stretch" most satisfactory.
The included remote is reasonably easy to use and has learned to control our Cambridge Soundworks stereo system, but not the Comcast cable box. It does not seem to accept the standard 4 digital codes and so far has not learned the other remote. Considering the differences in the various functions, using two remotes may even be preferable.
Overall we couldn't be more pleased with this television.
